AMOS is a twin barrelled 120 mm mortar turret, which can now also be mounted on fast combat boats.
The AMOS Naval Application Demonstrator (NAD) has been succesfully tested on a Combat Boat 90 in the Swedish archipelago year 2003. The tests were a part of the contract signed in 2002 between the Swedish FMV (the Swedish Materiel Administration) and Patria Hägglunds Oy for AMOS Navy.
The AMOS Navy turret shell will be smaller than the army version. The armour steel will be replaced by aluminium, giving the turret an empty weight of 2,500 kg. However, with a larger boat the army version would be usable directly.
The ability to fire a mortar from a moving boat at a moving target opens up new possibilities to the world´s Navies, Amphibious Forces and Coast Guards. AMOS Navy considerably reduces the reaction time and crew size, while providing significantly enhanced firepower compared to a conventional mortar deployment. Using AMOS at sea introduces totally new operational concept for the system.
